Lakeside Range Reclamation, Tooele County, Utah - Spring 2009

According to the DOGM website, Lakeside is one of the next historic areas up for destruction. If you aren't aware, Lakeside is a short jump out into the West Desert of Utah. There are a great many historic sites out here.

The Monarch Mine in Monarch Canyon is an amazing site full of antiquities and history. In fact, all throughout the range there are many mines that date back to the early 1900s that haven't been touched since the mid 1940s. They are well preserved, because no one really knows about them. Which makes them a target for the BLM and DOGM. If no one knows about a site, there is no one to contest it. Lakeside sits right in the heart of Tooele County. A county that until now, has done nothing about the closures on their lands. Until they see that there are people out here with valid concern, they will continue to roll over for the DOGM and allow these closures to continue. We need your help in letting the County, and the state level officials know that you oppose these closures. There is no precedent for any of these closures to be executed and especially in this day and time, isn't there something better that we could be directing this money to? Please take a minute and send an email to Governor Huntsman and the Tooele County Commission. Tell them that you protest the destruction of Utah's Mining Heritage. It only takes a moment and the email is populated for you, or you can feel free to edit as you see fit.

Frisco Ghost Town, Millard County, Utah - Summer 2009

Some of you may remember 2006 when this project was proposed. We were down in Milford almost every week. The City of Milford passed a resolution to keep the DOGM out of their mines. The city said on no uncertain terms that they did not want DOGM or the BLM to touch their historic mining sites. Well, they ignored the city, and went along with closing up mines in the Starr District. There is even a story about one of the patented mine owners who couldn't take the stress put on him by the OGM and died of a heart attack. This is again, your government at work.
Frisco is next on the chopping block, yes, Frisco. Iconic town, and probably one of the best known in the state is slated for "reclamation" in Summer of 2009. We will be petitioning the County Commission and hopefully teaming up with a few of the other counties to help stop this, but we need your help and input. Please take a moment to click this link and send your comments to the county commission, the BLM, the DOGM and Governor Huntsman. We should have better things to do with this money than to use it destroying our history.

San Rafael Swell (SRS) Uranium Mines, Emery County, Utah - Summer 2009

This destruction has already started. Even though all Public parties and GRE, Inc. showed up to protest, the DOGM facilitated a full closure of the MK Tunnels in the SRS. This, however, is just the tip of the iceberg. The DOGM and the OSM are planning a full scale assault on all of the historic Mines in the San Rafael Swell. Literally building roads to destroy mines and then destroying those same roads. All of this on mines that have proven themselves to be safe by their own track record and large numbers of visitors every year. GRE, Inc. has done a full inventory of the area and posted our finding for all to see. It truly is astounding and I think you will find yourself outraged that the state of Utah would follow the advice of the OSM and consider closing these Historic sites.
