New in the News...

Corruption at the BLM, it goes all the way to the top. The first in a long list of documentation of what the BLM is really doing. Bullying and intimidating those who would preserve what little history is left. Also, illegal activities captured in email correspondence and more.
At the top of all of this is Mr. Glenn Carpenter, is it coincidence that Mr. Carpenter plans an illegal move, and then somehow, before any of the other public knows, Mr. Dale Green is posting about it on a Yahoo group?? Maybe Mr. Green and Mr. Carpenter have a more intimate relationship that facilitates their sharing of information with each other.
The first part of this series starts here!!

Crystal Ball Mines - UPDATE!!
There has been a lot of talk about what is going on with the CB Mines. A lot of theorizing and a hell of a lot of uneducated people that prefer to talk as though they operate outside the boundaries of the law. (Dale, Glenn, Ray, anyone else that I missed?)
Here is the long and short. If the BLM had wanted to preserve this mine, they would have noted it as significant and removed it from being locatable. They didn't and as such the land is locatable and legal for mining. Period. end of story.
What would be great is if the Utah BLM was ignorant enough to violate Federal Law by restricting access to mineral exploration and or restricting access to a legally located mining operation. This is where the BLM will pay out a large settlement and careers will be lost.
Mr. Carpenter recently received a letter from GRE, Inc. (which can be read here), we will be sure to post his reply.

Who are we...

Gold Rush Expeditions is a not for profit organization dedicated to the preservation and documentation of Utah's historic mines and ghost towns. Utah is rich in history of all sorts, from Ancient Aztec tunnels, to Spanish Mining Activity, to our more recent mining history. The sites we have in Utah are like nothing else in the country. These are real areas where you can experience history. The preservation of these areas and your ability to access them is what Gold Rush Expeditions (GRE) is all about. We do not conduct tours, nor are we available for hire.

Ed's Archives - A history of Utah mining.

Ed Gosling has been working and documenting the mine camps of Utah since well before most of us were even thought of. What he has offered up is a timeline. Showing areas all over the state, what was, and what is now.  This gallery is just beginning to capture Ed's vision of Utah's mining camps with images from 1922 to the present.

Frisco and Newhouse - Still in Danger - Brent Hunsaker Reports.

Milford -UTAH - 07/17/2009- The BLM and DOGM has managed to keep a low profile since the original issue was raised, but make no mistake, the majestic and historic mines of Frisco, Grampian Hill and Newhouse are soon to be no more. In a recent story run by ABC 4's Brent Hunsaker, they made their position known, that being to "seal up the 221 holes (mines) in and around Frisco".
Video and the whole story available in the News section, here.

Action Areas!!

San Rafael Swell Uranium Mines in Emery County
A very rich history to explore and some amazing mines. Stands to reason then that the OSM and DOGM would determine them ripe for destruction. GRE, Inc. has done an intensive study of the area and found more than we would have guessed. We always thought Uranium Mines weren't worth the time or effort to defend but we were wrong. It is especially disturbing when you look at the money to be spent on these sites that pose no danger because no one can get to them. GOVERNOR HUNTSMAN - READ HERE!! THERE ARE STILL OPEN COAL MINES IN UTAH. SPEND THE COAL TAX MONEY ON ITS INTENDED PURPOSE!!

Lakeside Mountain Range in Tooele County
Lakeside is near the top of the list for reclamation in the 2009 year. Due to nearly no population, this effort has been able to proceed unhindered. We are here to hinder that action. The Lakeside range is home to some amazing mines with intricate and detailed histories. For more information on Lakeside, please click here, to be directed to the Lakeside Action page.

Frisco in Millard County
Yes, Frisco, often photographed and visited. Frisco is one of the most popular ghost towns in the state. It has rich history dating back to the mid 1800s and the area has no records of any injuries or deaths in any of the open mines. And its for that reason that the Division of Oil Gas and Mining, backed by the Office of Surface Mining in Denver, has decided that they must eradicate the site to keep you safe. That's right, all of the open mines, roads and history are on the list to be destroyed this year (2009). Don't let this happen, your input is vital. Please click here to help us protest this gross injustice.
