The tailings are so large and stable that the miners workshop was built on top of them. This is an excellent mine for a small scale miner. The workings are extensive and there are lots of rich ores still inside the mine.

    The Sundown mine located on the back side of a short mountain, hidden from view. This was a rich, producing mine that faded away in the sage brush after the war act outlawed gold mining. The workings consist of a massive shaft of at least 900', and a gated and locking adit. Free-milling gold can be found in the tailings, as well as substantial amounts of silver ore that has been carelessly discarded.

Although mostly reclaimed this mine site does feature a collared shaft and easy access rebar gate over its entrance. The shaft is fully timbered and plunges 350 feet into a connecting drift that continues on for 40 ft.

    The Emerson Mine is an excellent example of gold and silver mining that was executed in the Star District from 1860-1890. The mine works all the way down the hill and the shafts and adits are all interconnected. This is a very old mine and still very rich and had a little surprise that even caught our surveyors off guard. A series of 4 old wash basins had been filled with high grade ore, likely for removal, but that never happened.

    The Gold Leaf mine is located in the southern part of the Star Range in Beaver County, Utah. The claim is loaded with tailings and muck. Rich bodies of quartz and iron are common. Iron and quartz being a breeding ground for native gold. The surveyors did not report any visible gold in the tailings, but the historical reports speak of average values of 2-5 ounces of gold and 80-100 ounces of silver to the ton, and the host is certainly right for those types of values.
